Nishtha Khushu

I have been blessed with the Guru whose teaching and guidelines inculcated the seed of classical dance and owe myself to her who I am presently.

I started learning Kathak at the age of  five under the supervision of my Guru Ms.Shalini Sharma without whose guidelines and efforts this would have been never possible. Why Kathak ? Since childhood my mother has observed my inclination towards dance, and wanted to teach me  classical dance, it was then I joined the Kathak institute and am learning  Kathak under guidance of my Guru Ms.  Shalini Sharma . Now, Kathak has become my Lifeline and  I love to perform dance for pleasure and happiness of my heart. Rather, one more aspect which I want to clear  and convey the audience is  that Kathak is not the source of entertainment but it is a yoga which soothes the soul. To change the  perception of the people about the Kathak and make them to think about the origin of classical dance wherein every dance form has originated  for a particular purpose. Further in future I want to be a Kathak dancer and be turning point for rest of India and abroad. I performed Kathak dance at Haryana State Level Competition 2012 in field of classical group and won 1st prize.

Urvi Gupta

My name is Urvi Gupta, I am 13 years old, studying in class 9th. I am passionate about dance and have been learning kathak for the last 4 years. The love for kathak is a gift from my guru Ms Shalini Sharma, who is not only a great dancer but more importantly for me, a great teacher and a great human being.  Today I am a proud recipient of a national scholarship from Center for Cultural Resource and Training (CCRT) for learning kathak, which will go on till I turn 21. My journey with dance started when I was only 5 years old when I started learning Bharatnatyam. Learning it for two years, I felt more inclined towards kathak.

Luckily my mother came across Spandan Institute, near our home in sector 37 Faridabad, where Shalini Ji decided to accept me as her shishya. Today despite all the pressures and demands of studies and other activities, I make time for my dance riaz and classes as well, simply because I love dance!!! Whatever I do in life I know that dance is going to be an integral part of not only my personality but also my profession.. I have a long way to go in terms of learning dance but I know that with my guru’s and parent’s blessings and support I will hopefully be able to make a meaningful contribution in the field of dance.
